Delhi BJP Reopens Yamuna Bank Ghat Ahead of Chhath Puja 2025

In a significant development ahead of Chhath Puja 2025, the Delhi BJP announced the reopening of the Chhath Puja Ghat near Yamuna Bank Metro Station, marking the first time in five years that devotees will be able to perform rituals at this key location. The move comes as a welcome relief for thousands of devotees who had been demanding access to traditional ghats along the Yamuna for years.

The Chhath Puja, one of the most revered Hindu festivals dedicated to Surya Dev (Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya, holds deep cultural and emotional importance, especially for people from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and eastern India residing in Delhi. The reopening was confirmed by Delhi BJP leaders, who highlighted that this initiative aligns with their commitment to providing better facilities and restoring access to heritage worship sites.

According to BJP spokespersons, the reopening followed extensive cleaning and desilting of the Yamuna riverbank to ensure safety and hygiene for devotees. Several agencies have been deployed to improve sanitation, lighting, and crowd management at all designated Chhath Puja Ghats across Delhi.

Party representatives also stated that this step is part of broader efforts to enhance cultural inclusivity and maintain traditional faith practices. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been working together to prepare temporary bamboo structures, barricades, and first-aid arrangements.

Local residents and community groups have expressed gratitude, calling the move “a long-awaited gift before Chhath Puja.” The reopening also reflects the political significance of the festival in Delhi, with BJP and AAP often competing to gain goodwill among Purvanchali voters — a key demographic in the national capital.
