According to a recent study, a straightforward blood test for those with a certain sleep issue may be able to predict the onset of dementia years before symptoms appear. People with idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) physically enact their dreams while they are asleep.

Additionally, the problem is linked to a very high risk of Parkinson's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies, a related ailment. This type of dementia frequently results in cognitive and memory loss, as well as Parkinson-like movement issues and vivid visual hallucinations.

The blood test, which examines two blood proteins that are biomarkers for Alzheimer's, was initially created to detect Alzheimer's disease, but researchers at McGill University have found that it may also be used to determine which patients with the iRBD sleep disorder are at the highest risk of developing Dementia with Lewy Bodies.
