Vande Mataram 150 Years Poll Reform Debate Lok Sabha
In a significant de-escalation of the political conflict that had marred the opening days of the Parliament Winter Session, the Lok Sabha floor leaders have successfully reached a consensus, agreeing to hold substantive debates on two critical and diverse subjects: the 150th anniversary of the National Song, Vande Mataram, and the contentious issue of electoral reforms. This agreement, brokered by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in a crucial Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, promises to break the parliamentary deadlock that had previously paralyzed the Lower House.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed the breakthrough, announcing that the special Vande Mataram 150 Years Poll Reform Debate Lok Sabha schedule is now finalized. The historical commemoration of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s powerful composition will be taken up on Monday, December 8th, with the debate on the crucial electoral reforms scheduled to commence immediately afterward on Tuesday, December 9th, and extend into the next day. Ten hours have been specifically allotted for each discussion, underscoring the gravity and depth of deliberation expected from the House.
