Coastal Tamil Nadu braces for Cyclone Ditwah. IMD issues a Red Alert for delta districts, forecasting over 20 cm of rain ahead of the November 30 approach. NDRF teams deployed; CM Stalin reviews emergency flood preparedness.

Cyclone Ditwah IMD Red Alert Tamil Nadu Extremely Heavy Rainfall
The coastline of Tamil Nadu is on high-stakes alert as Cyclonic Storm Ditwah continues its trajectory across the Bay of Bengal, rapidly approaching the North Tamil Nadu–Puducherry–South Andhra Pradesh stretch. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a chilling Red Alert for several key coastal districts, warning residents and authorities to prepare for the onslaught of “extremely heavy rainfall,” potentially exceeding 20 centimetres in a 24-hour period.
The storm, which has already left a trail of catastrophic damage and over 40 fatalities in Sri Lanka, is expected to reach its closest proximity to the Indian mainland by the early morning hours of November 30. While forecasters currently predict Ditwah may track parallel to the coastline without intensifying into a severe cyclonic storm, the primary threat remains the immense volume of water it will unleash, raising the immediate specter of widespread urban flooding and localized inundation, particularly across the low-lying delta districts.
