Vice President JD Vance stirred fresh debate on Thursday by saying that a green card doesn’t guarantee immigrants the right to stay in the US forever. Foreigners, including Indians, are permitted to live and work in the nation with a green card, also known as a permanent resident card. However, "permanent residency" does not always imply lifetime security, despite the designation.

In an interview with Laura Ingraham, anchor of "The Ingraham Angle" on Fox News, JD Vance stated, "A green card holder doesn't have an indefinite right to be in the United States." "To me, it's about national security, but it's also more important about who we as an American public decide gets to join our national community," Vance stated. "This is not fundamentally about free speech."

"And it's as easy as that if the president and secretary of state determine that this individual shouldn't be in America and that they have no legal right to remain here," he continued.
