The University of Texas (UT) System, Harvard University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have all announced increased financial aid schemes that will provide middle-class students with free tuition.

By greatly raising the income requirements for eligibility, these programs seek to lessen the financial burden on students.

Harvard will offer complete financial aid to families making less than a particular amount, the UT System will waive tuition and fees for students from families making $100,000 or less, and MIT will now offer tuition-free education to households making less than $200,000 yearly.
