Earthquake News: The largest earthquake to strike Naples in forty years struck early Thursday morning, with a magnitude of 4.4, shaking the city and its environs. Residents were frightened and fled into the streets as the earthquake occurred at 01.25 am local time. Many of them spent the night in their automobiles.
The earthquake happened in the seismically active Campi Flegrei region, close to the town of Pozzuoli, at a shallow depth of three kilometers, according to the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV). with a depth of 10 kilometers, the earthquake was recorded by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) with a slightly lower magnitude of 4.2.
The earthquake, followed by a loud roar, sent shockwaves through the Campania region, with witnesses reporting severe shaking and power outages in some parts. Photos from the affected areas show broken windscreens, falling debris, and damaged structures.
