The recent phone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin about a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine was discussed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with Trump. As diplomatic efforts continue, the presidents also discussed possible future actions. White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino said in a post on X that Trump was conducting the call from the Oval Office.

Zelensky, who has frequently advocated for more robust US backing, stated that he anticipated learning additional specifics regarding Trump's conversation with Putin over the phone. As part of a short ceasefire in Russia's ongoing assault on Ukraine, the presidents of the US and Russia agreed to halt strikes on energy infrastructure. Putin, however, turned down Trump's offer of a longer 30-day ceasefire, underscoring the ongoing rift between the combatants.

US and Russian technical teams will meet in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the next few days to discuss implementing and possibly expanding the truce, White House national security advisor Mike Waltz said on social media. Whether Ukrainian authorities will participate in the negotiations is still unknown.
