x-cop Kiran Bedi urges PM Modi for a ‘field-first’ plan: Officials must physically ‘breathe same air’ to tackle Delhi’s public health emergency and severe AQI.

Kiran Bedi’s Field-First Accountability Plan for Delhi AQI Crisis
The escalating Delhi air pollution crisis has triggered a sharp, humanized plea for action from former top cop and administrator, Kiran Bedi. Describing the capital’s choking environment as a genuine “public-health emergency,” Bedi has called for a radical shift in governance strategy—a decisive move from remote-controlled decision-making to a field-first accountability plan where bureaucrats and officials are mandated to physically engage with the toxic conditions they are meant to resolve.
This outspoken critique came days after Bedi made a direct, emotional appeal to PM Narendra Modi via social media, urging his personal and proactive intervention. She implored the Prime Minister to replicate the time-bound, coordinated leadership structure she had personally witnessed during her tenure as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, particularly referencing the highly effective, structured virtual meetings used to tackle complex national challenges. Bedi suggested that a similar system, where the Prime Minister periodically conducts “Zoom sessions” with the Chief Ministers and Chief Secretaries of all neighboring states—including Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab—would ensure coordinated effort and stop the pollution levels from worsening.
