Six Killed in Mirzapur Train Accident at Chunar Junction

Six passengers were killed on Wednesday morning after being struck by a passing train while crossing the railway tracks at Chunar Junction in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district, in an accident that has raised fresh safety concerns about track crossings at smaller stations.

According to railway and local officials, the victims — reported to be devotees — had just alighted from the Gomo–Prayagraj Express at about 9:15 am and tried to cross the tracks from the wrong side when the Kalka Mail, passing through platform number three, hit them. Eyewitnesses described a horrific scene; the identities of those killed are yet to be officially confirmed.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the incident and expressed condolences, directing senior officials to rush to the site and ensure relief and rescue operations. He also ordered that the injured be given prompt medical treatment and asked SDRF and NDRF teams to assist with the response and recovery operation. These immediate administrative orders aim to speed up medical aid and forensic processes while families are informed.
