Prasanna Sankar, co-founder of Rippling, a $13.5 billion HR tech startup, has accused the Chennai Police of harassment and extortion.
He alleged on social media that officers from the Thirumangalam police station, including the Assistant Commissioner and a Sub-Inspector, demanded Rs 25 lakh after discovering his wealth.
The accusations stem from a custody dispute with his estranged wife, who filed a complaint claiming their child was kidnapped by Prasanna's friend, Gokul.
Prasanna revealed that his lawyer had already paid Rs 2 lakh to the police to mitigate the situation, but further demands were made for his friend's release from custody.
These allegations have sparked widespread criticism of the Greater Chennai Police on social media, though police sources have denied the claims, stating they were acting on a complaint from Prasanna's wife
