New Delhi, Police have arrested a man accused of violence during the December 2019 anti-CAA protests in southeast Delhi who had been declared a proclaimed offender after failing to appear in court, an officer said on Friday. Along with Sharjeel Imam and Aasif Iqbal Tanha, Mohd Hanif, a resident of Shaheen Bagh, is a co-accused in the case. He stated that the cops had also taken five bullets and a weapon from him.
On March 7, a municipal court ordered those charges be framed against Aasif Iqbal Tanha and Sharjeel Imam. "He and his brother Harun actively participated in riots in the New Friends Colony area during the protests in December 2019," stated Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Kaushik.
He was taken into custody in relation to a charge filed under the Arms Act and several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rioting and unlawful assembly. He said that despite having obtained bail, Hanif was deemed a proclaimed offender since he did not show up for court.
