In the Legislative Council on Friday, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar acknowledged that the city's garbage collection is controlled by a strong mafia. He gave his word that the government is addressing the problem with a long-term solution.

According to the Deccan Herald, Shivakumar, who also manages Bengaluru's development, stated that a comprehensive plan would be presented to the Council on Monday. He explained that the Karnataka High Court is currently investigating the matter and the government is awaiting its rulings. Waste collection was split up into 89 packages over the years, which made it challenging to streamline operations.

He suggested establishing sizable dump yards at least 100 kilometers outside of Bengaluru to lessen the city's load. According to the publication, he urged MLAs to find land in their constituencies and stated, "I'm ready to acquire 100-acre land parcels, whether in Kolar or any other suitable place."
