Through the state-run Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC), the Tamil Nadu government, headed by Chief Minister MK Stalin, has been accused by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of masterminding a ₹1,000-crore liquor fraud.

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has rejected the accusations as unfounded, while the BJP has asserted that the ongoing Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids have revealed widespread financial irregularities. In order to deflect attention from the scandal, the BJP also charged Stalin of circulating unfounded rumors on the three-language policy and other matters.

The claims were made the same day the DMK government gave the state assembly its presentation of the Tamil Nadu budget for 2025–2026. Major funding allocations were announced by Finance Minister Thangam Thenarasu for a number of social programs, such as the women's bus fare-free program, job creation projects, and infrastructure improvements. Opposition parties, including the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), staged a walkout in protest of the purported scandal, disrupting the budget session.
