Days after Trudeau ouster, MEA blames 'licence to extremists' for Canada ties 'downturn'

India claimed on Friday that the "license" given to "extremist and secessionist elements" in the North American nation was the reason behind the decline in its bilateral ties.

The MEA spokesperson's comments coincide with a shift in Ottawa's leadership, as Mark Carney took Justin Trudeau's place as prime minister.

Diversifying our commercial partnerships with like-minded nations is what Canada will be aiming for. Additionally, Carney had stated before to his swearing-in that "there are opportunities to rebuild the relationships with India—there needs to be a shared sense of values around that commercial relationship, and if I am the Prime Minister, I look forward to the opportunity to build that."
