Donald Trump's tariffs may lead to an unintended effect: A reset of India-Canada ties

Both Canada and India are now acting to defuse a recent escalation of diplomatic tensions sparked by Donald Trump's tariff threats. Both Ottawa and New Delhi are thinking about sending back envoys after last year's tit-for-tat expulsions.
India withdrew its high commissioner and dismissed six Canadian diplomats in October after the ambassador was named a "person of interest" in the Canadian authorities' investigation into the June 2023 murder of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Last week, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval hosted an intelligence summit in New Delhi, where Daniel Rogers, Canada's chief intelligence officer, took part.
The report also stated that it is not impossible for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney to meet during the June Group of Seven summit in Alberta. India participates in the G-7 as an observer.
