Atul Garg, the chief of Delhi Fire Services (DFS), refuted media reports on Friday that said he made a statement saying that no money was discovered while extinguishing a fire at Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Varma's official residence, according to news agency IANS. media sources as reporting that firefighters had not discovered any cash while putting out the fire at Judge Yashwant Varma's official residence, Atul Garg provided an explanation. The PTI article further stated that it is unknown how much was allegedly found.

The episode caused a stir in the legal community, with many people criticizing the Supreme Court collegium's decision to transfer the judge and demanding his resignation. Atul Garg denied the allegation in response to IANS's investigation, stating that he never informed any media source that firefighters had reported finding no cash at the scene. He said, "I don't know why," in response to a question about why his name was mentioned in the stories.

According to the IANS report, Garg also stated that he had already sent a clarification to the media outlets that carried the statement. Following a fire at Judge Yashwant Varma's home in Lutyens, Delhi, at approximately 11.35 p.m. on March 14, the Delhi fire department staff allegedly found a sizable cash hoard.
