Photographs of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were shown at a pro-monarchist rally held here to welcome former King Gyanendra Shah, sparking a controversy in Nepal.
Following his visits to religious sites across the nation, Gyanendra, 77, arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport on Sunday aboard a Simrik Air helicopter from Pokhara. Hundreds of supporters, including members and leaders of the pro-monarchist Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), began chanting slogans in his support.
The purpose of the event was to show support for Nepal's return to monarchy. Gyanendra was met on both sides of the road outside the airport by hundreds of loyalists on motorcycles bearing national flags and his portrait. Additionally, some fans put up pictures of Adityanath and Gyanendra together.
