Justice Yashwant Varma stripped of judicial work: Delhi HC issues circular
By : Sandhya
Justice DK Upadhyay, the chief justice of the Delhi High Court, dismissed Justice Yashwant Varma from his position on Monday, effective immediately. This came after Sanjiv Khanna, the Chief Justice of India (CJI), established a three-person investigative team on Saturday to look into claims related to the alleged finding of a sizable sum of money at Justice Varma's home.
The Delhi High Court said in a circular on Monday that the Hon. Mr. Yashwant Varma's judicial activity was withdrawn with "immediate effect" until further directions were issued due to the recent happenings.
The decision was reached in response to CJI Khanna's suggestion on Saturday that Justice Varma is not given any judicial work for the time being. Chief Justice Sheel Nagu of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chief Justice GS Sandhawalia of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, and Karnataka High Court Judge Anu Sivaraman make up the in-house committee.
