Karnataka bandh tomorrow: Bengaluru schools, colleges to remain open amid statewide protest

By : Sandhya
Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesha G stated on Friday that Bengaluru's schools and colleges will be open on Saturday in spite of a bandh declared by pro-Kannada groups. The 12-hour statewide bandh, scheduled from 6 am to 6 pm, has been organized to protest against the alleged assault on a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus conductor in Belagavi.
According to reports, the incident happened last month and was related to a linguistic quarrel. The conductor was allegedly singled out because he could not speak Marathi.
In addition, protesters have called for the Greater Bengaluru Authority Bill, which was approved during the current budget session, to be dropped and the recent increase in Bengaluru Metro tickets to be reversed. The Karnataka government has not, however, sanctioned the bandh, indicating that classes will continue as usual throughout the state.
