On Thursday, the Gates Foundation and Microsoft partnered with the Maharashtra government to establish an innovation city in Navi Mumbai and assist 25 lakh women in becoming self-employed, thereby establishing the state as a model for digital governance. Bill Gates, a co-founder of Microsoft, met with Devendra Fadnavis, the chief minister of Maharashtra, accompanied by representatives from the Gates Foundation.
"Mr. Gates has promised to launch it in Gadchiroli district, and the foundation will provide technical and financial support to the Maharashtra government in this sector," the chief minister's office said in a statement. Gates was informed by Fadnavis that efforts were being made by the state government to guarantee that farmers could obtain electricity even during the day.
The Gates Foundation also said that they will partner in sustainable energy initiatives in Maharashtra with social, government and corporation organisations. “This collaboration will benefit farmers, and Gates expressed his confidence that the state model has great potential for global dimension,” the statement said.
