Fahim Shamim Khan, 38, the leader of the Minorities Democratic Party (MDP), was arrested by Nagpur's cyber police for his involvement in the violence, while five other people were charged with sedition and disseminating false information on social media during the disturbances. These six individuals are among the 50 accused against whom the cyber police registered four First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with the violence in the Maharashtra town on Monday.
At a press event, DCP Cyber Crime Lohit Matani stated, "The cybercrime department has also asked for information from Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube authorities about 230 profiles on their platforms and sought for them to be blocked." The accused will be identified and taken into custody as soon as the department receives the information," he continued.
According to the official's investigation, false information first proliferated when a few films were posted on social media, which fueled violence even more. Later, other recordings "glorified the violence."
