PIL in Supreme Court seeks CBI probe into ‘honey trap’ allegations in Karnataka
By : Sandhya
On Monday, the Supreme Court consented to consider a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that calls for an impartial investigation by the CBI or SIT into the purported honey trapping of Karnataka judges, public personnel, and lawmakers. A bench led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna decided to hear the case today or tomorrow after the petitioner's attorney brought up the issue for an early listing.
In his plea, Binay Kumar Singh, a native of Jharkhand, asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a Special Investigation Team (SIT) made up of police officers not under the authority or control of the State of Karnataka, to conduct an impartial investigation. The appeal, filed by advocate Barun Sinha, requested that the Supreme Court supervise the inquiry directly or through a monitoring body presided over by a retired justice of the Supreme Court.
