At 74, Prime Minister Narendra Modi never ceases to astound with his vitality and excellent health. One important factor is his strict fasting regimen, which he has maintained for more than 50 years. Modi spoke out to US-based podcaster and AI researcher Lex Fridman about his fasting regimen and how it has influenced his way of living.
According to PM Modi, he observes the ancient Indian custom of Chaturmas, which is a four-month fast that begins in mid-June and ends after Diwali. He explained how digestion slows down during the monsoon, which makes this approach advantageous. "During this time, I eat only one meal within 24 hours," he added.
Modi also talked about his nine-day Navratri fast, during which he just consumes hot water and refrains from eating anything. "Drinking hot water has always been a part of my daily routine, and over time, my lifestyle naturally adapted to this habit," he said. He also observes the Chaitra Navratri fast in March or April, which consists of eating only one kind of fruit every day for nine days. "If I choose papaya, then for all nine days, I won't touch anything else just papaya," he said. For more than fifty years, fasting has been an integral part of Modi's life, he reflected.
