Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the environment minister, declared on Saturday that from March 31, gasoline for cars older than 15 years will no longer be available at gas stations in an effort to reduce pollution in Delhi.
"The newly formed BJP government is taking stringent steps to curb vehicular emissions and pollution," Sirsa stated, announcing a number of anti-pollution initiatives. Among the topics considered were the shift to electrified public transportation, restrictions on older vehicles, and mandated anti-smog measures.
Sirsa stated that the Union Ministry of Petroleum will also be notified of the decision. "We are installing gadgets at petrol pumps which will identify vehicles older than 15 years and no fuel will be provided to them," he said. Apart from fuel supply restrictions, all high-rise buildings, hotels, and commercial complexes in Delhi will be required to install anti-smog guns to curb air pollution levels.
