Parliamentary Panel Review Coaching Centres Student Suicides Kota

The crisis gripping India’s student community, tragically underscored by a disturbing increase in student suicides linked to unrelenting academic stress, has finally propelled the issue to the highest echelons of legislative attention. A key Parliamentary Committee has decided to launch an in-depth review into the unchecked proliferation of coaching centres and the adequacy of existing regulatory frameworks intended to govern them. The focus is squarely on the immense social pressure this multi-billion dollar industry places on the aspirations and mental well-being of young Indians.

The Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports has taken up this critical mandate, citing the urgent need to address the systemic pressures faced by students preparing for rigorous competitive examinations. The committee’s review, confirmed via a recent Lok Sabha bulletin, aims to scrutinize the entire trend of mushrooming coaching centres and the serious social issues arising from it. This move comes in the shadow of Rajasthan’s Kota, infamously dubbed the “coaching capital of India,” which has repeatedly reported painful incidents of students ending their lives due to the crushing weight of expectation and preparation demands.
