Tamil Nadu School Holiday Today Cyclone Senyar Rain Alert

The pervasive influence of the intensifying Northeast Monsoon has forced authorities across Tamil Nadu to declare widespread school closures today, Monday, November 24, 2025. This decision, aimed at prioritizing student safety amidst relentless downpour and severe flooding forecasts, has impacted over 15 districts in the southern and delta regions. The precautionary measures are directly linked to the formation of a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, which is highly anticipated to intensify into Cyclone Senyar within the next 48 hours, threatening the coastal regions with heavy to very heavy rainfall.

District Collectors, acting on urgent advisories from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), made early-morning announcements confirming the Tamil Nadu school holiday today. Among the key areas where schools—and in some cases, colleges—remain shut are Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai. The sheer number of affected regions underscores the gravity of the developing weather system. Furthermore, the neighboring Union Territory of Puducherry and the Karaikal region have also declared holidays for all educational institutions, anticipating possible flash floods and disruption to local transportation.
