Partial UP government survey finds 3,264 of 3,476 Yeida industrial plots (94%) lying vacant; reallocation drive planned to unlock land for EVs, data centres and warehousing.
Yeida Faces Industrial Setback
A partial survey ordered by the Uttar Pradesh government has found that 94% of industrial plots in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) remain vacant, highlighting large-scale under-utilisation in the fast-growing Noida-Greater Noida corridor. Of 3,476 Yeida plots, officials recorded 3,264 vacant — only eight fully functional units, 198 under construction and six non-functional. The state survey has covered 77% of a planned 33,493 industrial plots across Uttar Pradesh so far, finding 8,235 (25%) vacant or not used for their allotted purpose.
The probe, overseen by Invest UP and executed with Ramtek Software on the Nivesh Mitra platform, used geo-tagging and verification of GST, MSME registration and CIN details to map land use. Yeida CEO R.K. Singh said authorities have started a compliance drive: notices have been issued, layout plans requested from allottee owners and cancellations threatened if activity does not begin. The final report will feed an industrial land reallocation policy aimed at reclaiming long-idle tracts to meet Uttar Pradesh’s $1-trillion economy ambition.
The contrast within Gautam Buddh Nagar district is stark. Noida reports just 6% industrial vacancies (497 of 7,742 plots), while Greater Noida has 16% (416 of 2,677 plots) idle — figures officials attribute to financing, litigation and development pace differences. Authorities say reassigning idle Yeida land could unlock major opportunities for EV manufacturing, data centres, warehousing and logistics — sectors that could benefit from proximity to the upcoming airport and improving infrastructure.
