Pakistan has announced plans to nominate former U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his diplomatic role in halting a four-day conflict between nuclear-armed rivals India and Pakistan. The unexpected ceasefire, announced in May, has been credited by Islamabad to Trump’s “strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship.”

In an official statement shared on X, the Pakistani government stated, “President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi, which de-escalated a rapidly deteriorating situation.” It added that his actions exemplified “his role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue.”

While Pakistan attributes the de-escalation to U.S. diplomatic pressure, India maintains that the ceasefire was the result of a direct agreement between its military and Pakistan’s.

Trump, who has previously expressed frustration over not receiving a Nobel despite what he described as significant peace achievements—including the Abraham Accords—recently posted online: “I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do.”

His list of claimed diplomatic successes included the India-Pakistan ceasefire and deals between Israel and several Muslim-majority nations.

There has been no official response yet from Washington or New Delhi regarding Pakistan’s intention to submit Trump’s name for the Nobel Peace Prize. Analysts speculate that the nomination may also be aimed at influencing Trump’s stance on recent developments in the Middle East, particularly Israel’s actions toward Iran, which Pakistan has strongly condemned.
