Delhi CM Rekha Gupta credits husband for her success, has one regret since taking office
The saying goes, "Every successful man has a woman behind him." However, Rekha Gupta, the current chief minister of Delhi, asserts that the opposite may also be true. Gupta acknowledged that her husband played a significant role in influencing her achievements and career. Her one and only regret? Since taking office as chief minister on February 20, when the BJP defeated the Aam Admi Party in assembly elections, ending the 10-year tenure of the Arvind Kejriwal-led party, she has had to spend less time with her family.
Gupta, the only female chief minister in BJP-ruled states, said in an interview at the Delhi Secretariat that she is grateful to her "big joint family" for providing her with "full support" throughout her political career, which began when she was elected president of the Delhi University Students' Union in 1996 as an ABVP leader and secretary of the organization in 1995.
A powerful force at several universities, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is the student branch of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Gupta, who has been a municipal corporator for a long time, is a new Member of Parliament from the Shalimar Bagh seat. She was the general secretary of the BJP's Delhi wing before becoming the national vice president of the BJP Mahila Morcha.
