'Tahawwur Rana May Reveal More Names': Ex Anti-Terror Agency Official

Tahawwur Rana May Reveal More Names: Ex Anti-Terror Agency Official

New Delhi: Tahawwur Hussain Rana, the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, was successfully extradited to India, which a former top NIA official called "extremely important" because his questioning could help fill in the gaps left by previous investigations. Former NIA inspector general Loknath Behera told NDTV that the anti-terror agency's case against Rana is pending before a special NIA court in Delhi and is connected to a wider conspiracy. In 2011, the NIA submitted a chargesheet against Rana.

In a second case, he added, Rana was charged by the Mumbai Police in 2023 with planning the 26/11 terror strikes.

"The two cases differ from one another." Because these individuals were also destroying other locations, such as the National Defence College, the NIA case is connected to a conspiracy that is far more extensive and goes beyond the Mumbai attack charges. Additionally, there were most likely more ambitious ambitions. A few have not yet been made public. Thus, this extradition takes on greater significance because we were never able to question Rana, as we were able to do with Headley," Mr. Behera stated, alluding to David Headman Coley, a US citizen who was born in Pakistan and conducted reconnaissance on civilian targets.
