NIA's Jaya Roy, Ashish Batra lead Tahawwur Rana case; one even inspired ‘Jamtara’ | Who are they?
Two top Indian Police Service (IPS) officials, Jaya Roy and Ashish Batra, are leading the investigation into the 2008 Mumbai terror attack "mastermind," Tahawwur Rana, who is currently being imprisoned in Delhi by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Additionally, the two were instrumental in Rana's extradition from the United States over fifteen years after his arrest in Chicago for an unrelated offense. The pair is in charge of a 12-person NIA team that will look into the case now that he has been returned.
Jaya Roy is a member of the Jharkhand cadre of the Indian Police Service (IPS), having joined in 2011. She presently serves as the deputy inspector general (DIG) for the NIA team. Roy, who was born in West Bengal on April 22, 1979, entered the Indian Police Services in 2011 after passing the Civil Services examination administered by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). According to reports, she has an MBBS degree and is a medical professional by training.
When Roy's team in Jamtara cracked down on cybercriminals, she became well-known. Roy spent her first years of duty with the Jharkhand police. The same-titled web series was created in response to the findings and debuted on Netflix in 2020.
