Amid PM Modi's retirement claim, CM Yogi Adityanath discusses his political future: The position is not full-time.
Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, made a statement on Tuesday in the face of mounting rumors regarding his political future, especially in light of talks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's possible retirement. In response to a question concerning the growing public support for him as prime minister, Yogi Adityanath said that he doesn't view politics as his full-time profession.
"Look, I am the state's chief minister, and the Bharatiya Janata Party has appointed me to this position for the sake of the people of Uttar Pradesh. Politics is not my full-time job. We work here right now, but I'm actually a Yogi," the chief minister declared.
Politics are heated after Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut recently said that Prime Minister Modi, who turns 75 on September 17, will step down this year in compliance with the ruling party's unwritten rule that party leaders over 75 cannot hold ministerial positions. The Bharatiya Janata Party has denied the existence of such a rule and stated that at least one member of the union cabinet is older than that "age limit," Jitan Ram Manjhi, an 80-year-old Bihar leader.
