Are weight loss supplements useless? Nutrition coach reveals truth
With the recent excitement surrounding Ozempic and other weight loss drugs, consumers may be confused about how supplements function in the body and whether they are beneficial for rapid weight reduction. Mihir Gadani, co-founder of plant-based supplement firm Oziva Nutrition, stated on the April 19 episode of the Figuring Out with Raj Shamani podcast that weight loss medicines are only effective when combined with a healthy lifestyle, workout, and strength training.
In the podcast, Mihir stated that many people believe that weight loss pills like Ozempic and Wegovy are simple ways to achieve a toned figure. While certain weight loss techniques may work temporarily, he cautioned that if we do not take care of our health, they can quickly backfire.
Mihir noted that weight loss medicines work by hijacking the body's appetite mechanism. Mihir addressed the gut-brain link and how appetite signals cause us to seek food, saying, "When we are full, the gut sends a receptor to the brain indicating that we can stop eating. The same thing happens when we are hungry. Weight loss medicines disrupt this mechanism, so we cease feeling hungry."
