BJP's Raja Iqbal Singh elected as the new Delhi mayor

Raja Iqbal Singh of the BJP was chosen as Delhi's next mayor on Friday, igniting joy among the party's councillors. He defeated the Congress candidate, Mandeep Singh. With the AAP boycotting the poll and the Congress reduced to a minor presence, the BJP was anticipated to easily sweep the civic offices, consolidating its hold over Delhi through the Centre, nominated MLAs in the Assembly, and now the MCD.

"The main goal will be to improve Delhi's sanitation system, remove rubbish mountains, handle waterlogging issues, and give all basic and vital utilities to the residents of Delhi. "We will all work together with complete dedication and hard work," Singh stated after getting elected.

Before being elected, Raja Iqbal Singh told PTI that Delhiites had given the BJP the responsibility of resolving the city's problems. "The AAP has already accepted its defeat. "We will eliminate corruption and complete all pending work that has been stalled for the past two years," he stated. The MCD's current strength is 238, with 12 seats empty due to several councillors being elected to the Delhi Assembly and one to the Lok Sabha.
