Pahalgam attack live updates: Rahul Gandhi says terrorists wanted to divide the society with the strike
Pahalgam Attack Live Updates: General Upendra Dwivedi, the Indian Army chief, arrived in Srinagar on Friday to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the devastating terror assault in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people, the majority of whom were tourists. Dwivedi will inspect security precautions and visit the site of the Pahalgam incident. Earlier, the administration conducted an all-party meeting to brief its partners and the opposition on the actions being taken in response to the terrorist assault in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people.
Following the meeting, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, claimed that the government has the opposition's full backing "to take any action". Leaders from all parties urged decisive action against terrorism and terror camps, but several opposition parties highlighted security flaws in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that everyone agreed that India should fight terror together, and that all parties support the government in this effort.
Meanwhile, Pakistan announced on Thursday that it was suspending all commerce with India, including through third nations, in a move that officials and industry analysts said was unlikely to have a significant impact on New Delhi. Pakistan also removed Indian ambassadors from Islamabad and blocked its airspace to Indian-owned and operated aircraft. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made the choices during a national security committee meeting on Thursday, which includes the country's senior civilian and military leaders.
