175 detained in Anantnag as search continues for Pahalgam attack terrorists

Srinagar: At least 175 suspects have been detained in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district as a widespread search operation is underway to find the terrorists responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people and injured many more in the Baisaran meadow, 5 kilometers from Pahalgam town, police said. The police had apprehended overground workers, relatives of active militants, and suspects from across Jammu and Kashmir, but many were freed after an initial probe, according to a police spokesperson.

"In the wake of the recent Pahalgam incident and as part of intensified efforts to curb terrorism and its ecosystem, Anantnag Police, in close collaboration with the Army, CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) and other security forces have launched extensive search and cordon operations across the district," according to a police spokesperson.

"As part of these activities, many raids were carried out at various sites across the district. Day and night search activities are being conducted with heightened attention. So far, around 175 suspects have been held for questioning in order to dismantle support networks for terrorist activity," he continued.
