Canadian national detained for hoax bomb threat in Bengaluru-bound IndiGo flight

A Canadian national was seized on a Bengaluru-bound IndiGo flight in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi on Sunday after claiming to be carrying a bomb, police said. The incident occurred on Saturday night, and the Canadian was arrested by security authorities for additional interrogation. Police have not identified the person.

Panic rocked IndiGo passengers on Saturday night when the Canadian allegedly threatened fellow passengers with a bomb. The airport director, Puneet Gupta, stated that the flight was swiftly relocated to the isolation bay for a thorough investigation, and the threat was discovered to be a hoax. Gupta stated that the IndiGo crew swiftly notified Air Traffic Control (ATC) when the man threatened other passengers.

Officials said the flight was halted and inspected in accordance with routine security measures. A thorough investigation is also underway. After gaining security clearance, the flight proceeded for Bengaluru. The minister stated in his written response that IndiGo received the most bomb hoax calls (216), followed by Air India (179), erstwhile airline Vistara (153), Akasa Air (72), SpiceJet (35), Alliance Air (26), Air India Express (19), and Star Air (5).
