Expert says taking microbreaks during work plays a big role in improving your mental health

April 28 is designated as World Safety and Health Day at Work. It increases awareness about the importance of keeping workers safe and healthy, as well as preventing workplace accidents and diseases. A fulfilling professional life also requires good mental health. It enables you to work well at your workplace, and taking breaks is an important component of that.

Shreya Iyer, a habit coach and ACE Personal Trainer at Alyve Health, emphasized the need of microbreaks. She explained, "Microbreaks, as the name implies, are short breaks that can be taken throughout the workday, spanning from a few seconds to several minutes. These breaks help you balance your physical and mental health while also increasing productivity and performance. However, what you do during the break is crucial, since activities can be either disruptive or beneficial."

She continued, "If you fully commit to this exercise and allow yourself to take a mindful pause, you will notice a small but noticeable shift in your nervous system." Perhaps temporary, but enough to recognize that shifting from 'doing' to simply 'being' can have a favorable influence on your brain and body."
