Pakistan defence minister Khawaja Asif's X handle 'withheld' in India after Pahalgam attack
In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror assault, which killed 26 people, the Indian government blocked Pakistani defence minister Khawaja Asif's X account on Tuesday. The majority of the victims were tourists. The action came a day after 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, totaling 63 million members, were banned in India for "provocative and communally sensitive content".
The government's decision to prohibit YouTube channels follows the ministry of home affairs' recommendations in the aftermath of the April 22 terror assault in the upper regions of the Kashmir vacation town, which killed 26 people. In addition, the ministry of external affairs would scrutinize BBC reporting that referred to terrorists as militants, authorities said.
At the United Nations, India stated that Pakistan's defense minister's frank confession exposes the country as a "rogue state" fueling global terrorism and destabilizing the region. When Pakistan's delegate mentioned the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, India's deputy permanent representative to the UN, ambassador Yojna Patel, delivered a strong Right of Reply at the hybrid launch event for the UN Office of Counter terrorism's 'Victims of Terrorism Association Network' (VoTAN) on Monday.
