Delhi Court Acquits Man Of Rape, Directs Perjury Proceedings Against Woman

New Delhi: A Delhi court cleared a man of a rape accusation and ordered the woman to face perjury charges for fabricating a case, saying that while it takes a lifetime to develop a reputation, a few lies can ruin it. Extra Sessions The defendant was accused of raping the complainant in a hotel here on the intervening night of November 23–24, 2019, and Judge Anuj Agrawal was hearing the case against him.

The court acquitted the accused in its April 4 ruling, stating that "it is evident from record that prosecutrix gave false deposition before this court and concocted a mendacious story of rape/threat." The woman had previously filed six such rape and molestation allegations against various individuals, the court noted, and Delhi Police claimed that she was "in habit of giving false complaint of molestation and eve-teasing."

The accused had to endure the "trauma of trial" for the horrible crimes of rape and criminal intimidation based on a false claim, and the judge stated that a simple acquittal could not make up for the suffering.
