IMD issues ‘yellow alert’ for Delhi over next 3 days; heatwave stretches across north India

A "yellow alert" for a heatwave in Delhi from April 7 to 9 was issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday. The highest temperature is predicted to be between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius on April 7 and 8, and then approximately 41 degrees Celsius after that.

Temperatures in Delhi are currently 3 degrees higher than usual, averaging between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius. By April 7, heatwave-like conditions could be possible. Between April 8 and 10, a western disturbance is predicted to impact the Western Himalayan region, perhaps resulting in thunderstorms, high winds, and precipitation, IMD scientist Akhil Srivastava told ANI.

More heatwave days are anticipated in a number of states from April to June, including the northern regions of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.
