Stock market crash live: Bloodbath on Dalal Street as Sensex falls by 2,300 points, Nifty plunges by 750
Live stock market crash: Growing concerns about the US recession and global trade tensions caused India's benchmark indices to plummet Monday, sparking a sell-off on Wall Street and Asian markets. In early trading, the 30-share BSE benchmark fell 3,939.68 points, or 5.22 percent, to 71,425.01. BSE-listed companies' market capitalization fell precipitously by ₹20,16,293.53 crore to ₹3,83,18,592.93 crore.
Following a Wall Street breakdown Friday over Donald Trump's tariff hikes and the retaliation from Beijing, Asian stocks fell precipitously. Further deterioration was also indicated by US futures. The Dow Jones Industrial Average saw a 2.1% decline in the future, while the S&P 500 saw a 2.5% decline. The Nasdaq's future dropped 3.1%.
On April 2, Donald Trump's "reciprocal" tariffs went into force. A basic tax of 10% was imposed on imports from all countries, with higher rates applied to many countries that had trade surpluses with the US.
