Police have detained eight people, but the Karnataka Home Minister denies an NIA investigation into the murder in Mangaluru
On Sunday, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara firmly rejected the demand made by BJP MP Tejasvi Surya and other party officials to turn over the investigation into the death of Hindutva activist Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). This is what they think. We are adamant that the police are carrying out their duties effectively. In response to the BJP's demand for federal intervention, Parameshwara told reporters in Bengaluru that eight arrests had already been made and that the probe was moving along nicely.
An anonymous mob hacked to death Suhas Shetty, a notorious Hindutva activist and raucous sheeter with numerous criminal records, late Thursday night inside the boundaries of Mangaluru's Bajpe police station. Due to tensions in the coastal city caused by the murder, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) called a bandh on Friday, which resulted in a broad shutdown of businesses.
The Home Minister affirmed faith in the state police and rejected the need for an NIA investigation. "Involving the NIA is not necessary at this time. He declared, "Our force is capable and has already demonstrated results."
