Amid Indo-Pak tensions, mock drills were scheduled in states on May 7: "Civilian training, air raid sirens"
In order to improve civil defense readiness, the ministry of home affairs (MHA) ordered a number of states to hold simulated exercises on May 7, according to ANI. Following the Pahalgam terror assault in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people, primarily tourists, tensions between India and Pakistan have been on the rise. The incident is among the deadliest acts of terrorism to strike Jammu and Kashmir since the Pulwama blast in 2019. India has promised to find the people who carried out the act.
India has taken a number of punitive actions against Pakistan, including as downgrading diplomatic ties, closing the land border crossing at Attari, and suspending the Indus Waters Treaty. Additionally, the NDA government restricted Indian airspace for Pakistan Airlines flights and revoked all visas issued to Pakistani nationals.
In response, Pakistan banned Indian airlines from operating in its airspace and declared that all trade with India would be suspended, including travel to and from any third country via Pakistan. For the past ten days, Pakistani soldiers have also been persistently breaking the ceasefire along the border.
