UP Weather: Monsoon hits, heavy rain and lightning alert in many districts

The monsoon has officially arrived in Uttar Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for 12 districts in Eastern UP and the Bundelkhand region. Additionally, an orange alert for thunderstorms and lightning has been issued in 55 districts across the state.

Monsoon rains began entering southern parts of UP from Wednesday and are gradually spreading across the Terai, central, and western regions. Weather experts predict that by Friday (June 21), both the intensity and spread of rainfall will significantly increase.

Alerts Issued for June 21:

Orange Alert for heavy rainfall in 12 districts including:

Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi, and Lalitpur.

Yellow Alert for heavy rain in 23 districts of central and western UP.

Orange Alert for lightning and thunderstorms has been issued for 55 districts in total.

Strong gusty winds are also expected during the rain. On Thursday, Firozabad recorded the highest rainfall with 120 mm, marking a strong onset of the monsoon. Other areas like Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Etawah, Bulandshahr, Meerut, Bareilly, Sitapur, Lucknow, Barabanki, Bahraich, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Sonbhadra, Varanasi, and Sultanpur experienced light to moderate rainfall.

According to Atul Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist at the Regional Meteorological Center in Lucknow, rainfall will intensify and expand further across different regions of Uttar Pradesh on June 20.
