Cancer Patient, 60, Abandoned in Garbage by Grandson in Mumbai

In a deeply troubling incident, a 60-year-old woman suffering from skin cancer was found abandoned near a garbage heap in Mumbai's Aarey Colony. The woman, identified as Yashoda Gaikwad, was discovered in an extremely frail condition by Mumbai Police on Saturday.

During questioning, the elderly woman alleged that her own grandson had left her there. Despite being found in the morning, police were only able to get her admitted to Cooper Hospital by 5:30 PM, after several hospitals reportedly refused treatment due to her critical state.

Yashoda provided the police with two addresses linked to her family — one in Malad and another in Kandivali. Authorities have launched a probe and are working to trace her relatives. Her photo has been circulated across police stations as part of the search effort.

An investigation is ongoing.
