IN PHOTOS: Rain worsens peak-hour chaos at Mumbai’s Borivali station
Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Thursday morning, bringing an already bustling Borivali railway station to a near standstill during peak commuter hours. The relentless downpour not only delayed train services but also led to massive overcrowding, waterlogged platforms, and frustrated passengers.
Photos from the station captured long queues, drenched commuters jostling for space, and many stranded on the foot-over bridges. With local trains running behind schedule due to signal disruptions and slippery tracks, the chaos extended well beyond Borivali, affecting thousands travelling to work or school.
Mumbai locals, considered the city's lifeline, were seen moving at a snail’s pace, with several commuters complaining of delays of 20–30 minutes. For many daily travelers, especially office-goers and students, the combination of rain and railway congestion turned the morning into a nightmare.
Railway officials said additional staff had been deployed to manage crowd movement and announcements were being made frequently to update passengers. However, the impact of the rainfall, coupled with the morning rush, overwhelmed the infrastructure.
