Jammu-Srinagar Direct Train to Start in September: Union Minister

Jammu, June 5: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that a direct train service between Jammu and Srinagar is set to begin in September. This comes after the completion of key development work at the Jammu Railway Station.

Speaking to reporters during an inspection visit to the station, Vaishnaw said, “The work is expected to be completed by September. Once platforms 5 and 6 are operational, Vande Bharat trains will begin direct operations between Jammu and Srinagar.”

The minister’s visit was part of preparations for the much-awaited rail connectivity to Kashmir.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to flag off the Vande Bharat trains from Katra on Friday. He will also inaugurate the Chenab and Anji bridges, along with launching and laying the foundation for various development projects worth ₹46,000 crore in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNO)
