Email warns of RDX plot at Golden Temple; 2nd threat in 24 hrs

Golden Temple Receives Second RDX Threat in 24 Hours, SGPC Urges Probe

Authorities at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the holiest shrine for Sikhs, have received a second threatening email within 24 hours, warning of a plan to plant RDX explosives at the sacred site.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which manages the shrine, confirmed receiving the email on Tuesday, just a day after another threat targeted the langar hall (community kitchen) on the premises.

In response, the SGPC filed a fresh police complaint and also wrote to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, seeking his immediate intervention. “An email has informed about a conspiracy to place RDX at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib,” the SGPC wrote in its letter to the CM.

Amritsar police have launched a full investigation and are working to trace the origin of the emails. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that cases have been registered and efforts are underway to identify the sender.

SGPC member Pratap Singh appealed to devotees not to panic. “This is a deliberate attempt to spread fear,” he said, assuring that security arrangements are in place.

Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla also took to social media platform X, calling the threats "an attack on peace, faith, and humanity.” He urged CM Bhagwant Mann and Punjab DGP to act swiftly. “This sacred place is visited by lakhs daily. Security must not be compromised. We cannot afford any lapse in protection,” he wrote.

Authorities remain on high alert as investigations continue.
